3 Effective Ways To Get More Instagram Followers

By on February 1, 2016

Instagram is quickly becoming a focal point in the social media world. Brands are using it to connect with current and potential new customers. Not only is it one of the quickest growing social media platforms, it also has one of the most engaged audiences. Instagram has over 400 million active monthly users. If you’re not using Instagram you’re missing out on a highly engaged and rapidly growing audience.

Before you start using these methods… You need to make sure you have a consistent theme through out your Instagram account and posts. When someone visits your account they need to know exactly what you’re about.

There are essentially three different types of Instagram accounts: Business accounts, Personal accounts, and Fan Page accounts. It’s important for you to recognize what type of account and theme you have before you start using these methods. It’s just as important to share great content that is consistent with your theme.

Let’s jump into three effective ways you can use Instagram to get more followers.

Follow the Followers of High Influencers

Warning: This method may violate Instagram’s terms of service, use it at your own risk.

This method is a bit controversial, but it is the most effective method for getting targeted followers fast.

What do I do? You follow the followers of high influencer accounts in your niche (your top competitors). Make sure you target accounts that have the same general target audience as you do otherwise this method won’t be as effective. Each time you follow someone they get a notification that you followed them, and a small percentage of them (around 15% to 20%) will follow you back.

I believe Instagram allows you to follow or unfollow 160 people per hour. If you overuse this method you run the risk of Instagram possibly blocking your account for a few hours and sometimes up to a few days. Use at your own risk.

Crowdfire is a free smartphone app & website that makes following and unfollowing people a lot easier and quicker. I recommend you download and use it.

Engage with Influencers in Your Niche

This method can yield great results over time. You want to find and follow all the top influencers in your niche, and then actively like and comment on their images and videos. If you provide a valuable comment you’re more likely to “wow” people, and they’ll be more likely to check out your account and possibly follow you.

Consistency is the key with this method. You can also learn quite a bit about your target audience by seeing how they react to specific content that your competitors are posting.

Make Use of Good Hashtags

This method is very important for new accounts. You need to spend time to research and find hashtags that are the most related to your target audience. You can use Instagram hashtag search to find good related hashtags.

What should I do? Come up with a list of 30 really good hashtags and then save them to your notes on your smartphone.  Before making a post go to your notes and copy the hashtags. You then create and publish a post without hashtags. Once the post is published, go to the comments section and paste all your hashtags.

By using 30 good hashtags with each post you greatly increase your overall visibility. Instagram counts the hashtags the same as if they were in the post description, but your post doesn’t look hashtag spammy.

Wrapping It Up

We just went over three methods you can use to grow your Instagram following. Make sure your measuring and keeping track of what methods works best for you, and then put the most time and effort into those methods.

Consistency overtime with each of these methods will yield great results — I’ve seen it countless times. This post doesn’t go into all the details, but it should make you aware of a few methods that you can start using right now to get more targeted followers.
